Preparation of substrate It is the responsibility of the contractor to ensure that floor covering is installed on substrate meeting technical specification. Local regulations and construction standards are to be complied with. Base should be smooth, durable, dry, even and cohesive. Humidity cannot exceed 2% in case of cement substrate or 0,5% in case of plaster substrate. In case of older substrates potential remnants of construction chemicals, impregnates etc. can cause discolouration of floor covering. The best solution is to smooth the substrate with the use of smoothing compounds.
Floor heating Most floor coverings are fitted for an installation on heated floors. However, it should be noted that temperature cannot exceed 30 degrees Celsius. Heating should be started up gradually in several steps. Cutting and preparing coverings for gluing The contractor is obliged to check if delivered floor covering originates from one series, especially if it is to be installed in the same room. Adjusting sheets of covering (rolls) should be installed in the same direction. In case of some coverings with patterns it is necessary to reverse the sheets. In case of carpet tiles attention should be paid to directional arrows printed underneath. Appropriate pictograms allow or forbid installation of tiles in one direction or possibility of reversion. Moreover, carpet tiles prior to installation and cutting should be acclimatized to temperatures of the room (room temperature). For cutting carpet floorings it is recommended to use knives with curved blades, especially carpet cutters or carpet trimmers. Incorrect cut can cause ripping of threads. Seams should be prepared by cutting through wearing surfaces of two overlaid sheets. Trimming carpet tiles should be conducted after arranging their layout, starting from the centre of the room. Cut tiles should be placed next to the walls and their width should be not less than 15 cm. Gluing and installing floor covering Floor coverings available in rolls. Floor coverings in tiles Additional notes In case of floorings with velour fleece, after installation might appear an impression that floorings in the same series have got different shades. That is caused by creasing of fibres during transport and disappears after a few weeks. A natural feature of this type of floorings is fleece shading, which does not constitute a fault. Possible visible joints between carpet tiles should disappear after a few weeks of exploitation when fleece from adjoining tiles will overlap. |
